چکیده

یک سیستم کم هزینه آبیاری زیر سطحی می تواند مزایایی برای کشاورزان دارای مزارع کوچک  ( که کمبود آب دارند ) داشته باشد.  آب پخش کن های ساخته شده ازشلنگ های  لاستیکی  استاندارد در اندونزی برای آبیاری زیرسطحی معرفی  شده اند. این فناوری یک روش کم هزینه است که بر پایه مهارت ها و مواد بومی هستند.   برای ساخت آب پخش کن حلقه ای با طراحی اصلی ، یک شلنگ لاستیکی به شکل حلقه با قطر تقریبی 20 سانتی متر خمیده می شود و سپس حفره های 5 میلی متری در داخل آن ایجاد می شود و این حفره ها در بازه های زوج قرار می گیرند. در ادامه ، تمام شیلنگ حلقه ای با پارچه نفوذپذیر پوشش داده می شود تا آب در تمام جهات اطراف آب پخش کن دفن شده نفوذ شود. آب از یک تانکر متصل به آب پخش کن و با تنظیم فشار در ورودی آب پخش کن استفاده می شود. اگر چه این فناوری با موفقیت در عمل استفاده می شود ، اما عملکرد آب پخش کن حلقه ای با جزئیات کامل بررسی نشده است. به علاوه ، چون آب پخش کن حلقه ای کامل با پارچه پوشانده می شود ، شناسایی عملکرد معیوب و یا تعمیر آن کار دشواری است. برای افزایش استفاده از آب پخش کن های حلقه ای برای آبیاری زیر سطحی در میان کشاورزان مزارع کوچک در مناطق خشک و نیمه خشک ، طراحی آب پخش کن با نگه داری ساده عامل مهمی می باشد. این تحقیق روش کاهش تعداد حفره ها و تغییر پوشش را مطرح می کند. چون تعداد آزمایشات انجام شده برای ارزیابی عملکرد آب پخش کن های حلقه ای معمولا محدود است ، شبیه سازی عددی می تواند علاوه بر آزمایشات تجربی انجام شوند. هدف اصلی این تحقیق عبارتند از : 1- بررسی تجربی حرکات آب در اطراف آب پخش کن حلقه ای و 2- ارزیابی عددی تاثیر اصلاح طراحی آب پخش کن حلقه ای بر دینامیک های آب و خاک اطراف آب پخش کن. شبیه سازی های عددی بااستفاده از HYDRUS انجام شدند که یکی از کامل ترین بسته های شبیه سازی جریان آب یا نسبت اشباع سازی مختلف در حوزه های دو بعدی و سه بعدی می باشد. شبیه سازی HYDRUS در یک حوزه کاملا سه بعدی و با استفاده از پارامترهای هیدرولیکی خاک انجام می شود و این پارامترها در برابر داده های تجربی گرداوری شده در مدت انجام آزمایشات آب پخش کن حلقه ای بهینه سازی می شوند. نتایج شبیه سازی تایید کننده این مطلب هستند که کاهش تعداد حفره ها تاثیر قابل توجهی بر وجود آب در سیلیت برای گیاهان آزمایش شده مثل گوجه فرنگی و توت فرنگی ندارد. مطلب دیگری که در این تحقیق تائید شده است این است که پوشاندن کامل آب پخش کن لازم نیست. پوشاندن نسبی آب پخش کن اجازه می دهد تا نگه داری آب پخش کن در مقایسه با شرایط پوشش کامل آسانتر باشد.

4. جمع بندی و نتیجه گیری ها

نتایج تجربی نشان داد که در شرایط استفاده از آب پخش حلقه ای شکل ، آب در اطراف آب پخش کن قرار گرفته در سیلیت سریعتر حرکت می کند ، در حالی که حرکت رو به پایین آب در شن بیشتر است. اختلاف در الگوی جریان می تواند با اختلاف در طول مویرگی ماکروسکوپی خاک در ارتباط باشد . این اختلاف می تواند به عنوان شاخص تاثیر طول مویرگی در مقابل تاثیر گرانش بر حرکت آب اشباع نشده در نظر گرفته شود. HYDRUS  که مدل شبیه سازی جریان متغیر آب اشباع شده در وسایل منفذ دار است ، با استفاده از اطلاعات تجربی گرداوری شده از آزمایشات انجام شده با فشار آب ورودی 1 سانتی متر سنجیده می شود . پارامترهای هیدرولیک خاک نیز برای شبیه سازی تغییرات در مقدار آب خاک (SWCs) برای آزمایشات انجام شده با فشار آب ورودی 5 سانتی متر استفاده می شوند. در حالی که (SWCs) به خوبی برای تمام سیلیت ها پیش بینی شده اند ، اما (SWCs) بالای آب پخش کن دفن شده به خوبی ارزیابی نشده اند و این مقادیر برای شن هم به صورت دقیق ارزیابی نشده است. اگر چه رسانایی هیدرولیک اشباع شده برای شن بسیار کم است ، اما این نتیجه بیانگر این است که حرکات رو به پایین آب قابل توجه هستند و این مطلب دلالت بر وجود جریان برتر دارد.

Abstract

A low-cost subsurface irrigation system can generate benefits for small-scale farmers who have scarce water resources. A ring-shaped emitter made from a standard rubber hose has been developed and introduced for subsurface irrigation in Indonesia. It is a low-cost irrigation technology based on indigenous materials and skills. To build a ring-shaped emitter of the original design, a rubber hose is bent into a ring shape with a diameter of about 20 cm, and then five 5-mm holes are drilled into it at even intervals. Next, the entire ring-shaped hose is covered with a permeable textile so that water can infiltrate in all directions around the buried emitter. Water is applied from a water tank connected to the emitter by adjusting the pressure head imposed at the inlet of the emitter. Although it has been successfully used in practice, the performance of the ring-shaped emitter has not been evaluated in detail. Additionally, because the ring-shaped hose is fully covered with the textile, it may be difficult to detect any malfunctions or repair it. To promote the ring-shaped emitter for subsurface irrigation among small-scale farmers in arid or semi-arid regions, it is important to design an emitter that is easy to maintain. This study proposes a reduction in the number of holes and a change of covering method. Because the number of experiments that can be carried out to evaluate the performance of alternative ring-shaped emitters is usually limited, numerical simulations can be performed in addition to experiments. The main objectives of this study thus were 1) to experimentally investigate the water movement around a buried ring-shaped emitter and 2) to numerically evaluate the effect of modifying the design of the ring-shaped emitter on soil water dynamics around the emitter. Numerical simulations were carried out using HYDRUS, one of the most complete packages for simulating variably-saturated water flow in two- or three-dimensional domains. HYDRUS simulations in a fully three-dimensional domain were performed using the soil hydraulic parameters that were optimized against experimental data collected during experiments with the original ring-shaped emitter. Simulation results confirmed that reducing the number of holes does not significantly affect the water availability in silt for model plants, such as tomato and strawberry, and that covering the entire emitter is not necessary. Partially covering the emitter allows one to maintain the emitter much more easily compared to the original fully-covered emitter.

4. Summary and conclusions

The experimental results showed that water moved radially around the emitter in silt, while downward water movement was dominant in sand when water was applied using the buried ring-shaped emitter. The difference in the flow pattern can be attributed to the difference in the macroscopic capillary length of the soil, which can be interpreted as a measure of the contribution of capillarity as opposed to gravity’s effect on unsaturated water movement. HYDRUS, a model simulating variably-saturated water flow in porous media, was then calibrated using the experimental data collected from the experiments with the 1-cm inlet pressure head. The calibrated soil hydraulic parameters were used to simulate changes in soil water contents (SWCs) for the experiments with the 5-cm inlet pressure head. While SWCs were predicted well for silt, SWCs above the buried emitter were overestimated and those directly below the emitter were underestimated for sand. Although the fitted saturated hydraulic conductivity for sand was too small, this result indicates that downward water movement was predominant, suggesting the occurrence of preferential flow.

چکیده

5- نتیجه گیری

با توجه به نتایج ارزیابی بدیهی است که SaltMod می تواند مدل مفیدی برای شبیه سازی عمق آب های زیر زمینی و شوری در مناطق کشاورزی باشد. این مدل می تواند تعادل آب خروجی و نمک را از طریق اقدامات مختلف را فراهم آورد. سطح آب در منطقه تحقیق می تواند در سال های پیش رو در شرایط کنونی افزایش داشته باشد. بنابراین ، اطمینان از برداشت محصول در منطقه تحقیق باتوجه به الگوهای موجود برداشت محصول ، خروج / ورود و شرایط آب شناسی/کشاورزی نمی تواند مستمر باشد. در شرایط بهینه ، کاهش در محیط کاشت برنج در برابر سایر محصولات غیر برنجی پیشنهاد می شود ، زیرا این کار می تواند کاهش قابل توجه در رشد منظم را سبب شود. علاوه بر کاهش محیط کشت برنج ، کاهش استفاده گسترده از آب های زیر زمینی و اب های کانال پیشنهاد می شود. کاهش آب های زیر زمینی می تواند با افزودن آب های چاه در مناطق جدید و تشویق کشاورزان / سهامداران به استفاده از آب های کم کیفیت و آب های کم کیفیت کانال برای اهداف آبیاری اتفاق بیفتد. سناریوی بهینه نشان می دهد که تغغیرات جزئی 3 تا 6 % در مقادیر ورودی می تواند مشکلات آب شناسی در منطقه تحقیق را سبب شود. گزینه های مدیریتی بحث شده در صورت اجرا می توانند کمک قابل توجهی به کاهش افزایش سطح آب های زیرزمینی و کاهش شوری در اراضی کشاوری کنند.

Abstract

The intensification of irrigated agriculture is required for attaining food security. It could result, however, in water resources problems of waterlogging and secondary salinization. To assess different management strategies in solving the problems, the current study used a simulation model SaltMod in a command area of north-west India which faced the problems of salinization and waterlogging. Following the thriving testing in the course of calibration and validation, it was used for studying various water management alternatives for the command area. The analysis of different scenarios shows that watertables in the command would persist to go up under the normal conditions. Thus, right management alternatives, for example, increased groundwater use, rice area reduction, and reduced canal water use are recommended. The ideal scenario revealed that small changes of 3–6% in input values would contain the problems of the study region.

1- Introduction

The water and soil resources are limited and they experience gradual degradation (Chitsaz and Azarnivand, 2017; Singh, 2018a, 2016a). Besides, farm production requires to be increased using these limited resources for feeding the burgeoning global population (Xie et al., 2018; Lomba et al., 2017; Li and Zhang, 2015; Singh, 2018b, 2014; Liu et al., 2016; Davijani et al., 2016). The intensification of irrigated agriculture is required for realizing food security (Das et al., 2015; Singh et al., 2016) in dry regions given that normal rainfall in these areas is highly unreliable (Herrmann et al., 2016; Adhikari et al., 2017; Postel, 1999). This intensification, however, could result in water resources problems of rising watertables and secondary salinization (Tilman et al., 2002; Houk et al., 2006; Singh, 2012, 2017a,b). Abbas et al. (2013) stated that soil salinization is growing globally at an average annual rate of over 2 million ha. In recent times, the Food and Agriculture Organization FAO reported that more than 19 percent of the total irrigated territory is suffered by salinization (FAO, 2016).

5- Conclusions

It is clear from evaluating the results that SaltMod appears to be a helpful model for the simulation of watertable depths and salinities in agricultural areas. It is capable of appraising the upcoming water and salt balances through a range of interventions. The watertables in the command area would persist to go up in the coming years in the existing conditions. Therefore, assured crop cultivation in the study region could not be continued under the present cropping pattern, discharge/recharge, and agro-hydro-meteorological settings. Under the optimal conditions, a decreased rice area against non-rice crops is recommended, since it could trim down percolation significantly. Apart from rice area reduction, enlarged use of groundwater and reduced canal water use are also recommended. Groundwater withdrawals can be augmented by putting in additional tubewells at fresh sites and encouraging stakeholders/farmers to utilize poor quality groundwater in conjunction with limited higher-quality canal water for irrigation purposes. The optimal scenario revealed that small changes of 3–6% in input values would contain the hydrological problems of the study region. The discussed management alternatives, if put into practice, will help significantly to lessen the groundwater table rise and secondary salinization of agricultural lands.

چکیده

کاربرد سیستم های زهکشی پایدار شهری(SuDS) برای مدیریت رواناب شهری و کمک به بهبود فضای سبز و محیط زیست امروزه به طور کامل شناخته شده است با این حال کاربرد آن در بسیاری از مناطق نظیر کشور های حوزه دریای مدیترانه محدود شده است. به علاوه، تعداد کمی از ابزار های پشتیبان تصمیم گیری وجود دارند که مزایای آن ها در فرایند تصمیم گیری به شیوه ای شفاف و یکپارچه و جامع در نظر گرفته می شود. در این مقاله، ابزار پشتیبانی تصمیم گیری E2STORMED ارایه می شود. این ابزار به تحلیل اثر مدیریت سیلاب در محیط شهری پرداخته و معیار های محیطی و انرژی را در فرایند تصمیم گیری معرفی می کند. از این روی، هدف آن پرکردن خلاء موجود بین راهنماها و دستور العمل های SuDS و تصمیم گیران منطقه ای و محلی می باشد زیرا مزایای SuDS را به طور کمی اندازه گیری کرده و آنها را در مقایسه سناریو های مختلف سیلاب در نظر می گیرد. در نهایت، نتایج استفاده از این ابزار برای مقایسه زیر ساخت های زهکشی در توسعه شهری واقعی توصیف می شود.

5-نتیجه گیری

امروزه تغییرات مشخص و شفافی در راستای دست یابی به مدیریت پایدار سیلاب و توسعه شهری وجود دارد. از این روی معیار های زیست محیطی، اجتماعی و انرژی را می توان در فرایند تصمیم گیری لحاظ کرد. در سال های اخیر، سیستم های زهکشی پایدار (SuDS) را برای دست یابی به مدیریت سیلاب پایدار تر، انعطاف پذیر تر و یکپارچه تر ،ارتقا یافته است. سیستم های زهکشی پایدار از فناوری های ساده و رایج استفاده می کنند و در بر گیرنده انواع مختلفی است اگرچه این ابزار ها می توانند خوب باشند ولی یک ابزار یکپارچه برای تحلیل اثرات مدیریت سیلاب در کل چرخه اب شهری و توسعه شهری لازم است. در این مقاله، ابزار پشتیبانی تصمیم گیری E2STORMED ارایه شد. این ابزار به تحلیل اثر مدیریت سیلاب در محیط شهری پرداخته و معیار های محیطی و انرژی را در فرایند تصمیم گیری معرفی می کند. از این روی، هدف آن پرکردن خلاء موجود بین راهنماها و دستور العمل های SuDS و تصمیم گیران منطقه ای و محلی می باشد زیرا مزایای SuDS را به طور کمی اندازه گیری کرده و آنها را در مقایسه سناریو های مختلف سیلاب در نظر می گیرد. در نهایت، نتایج استفاده از این ابزار برای مقایسه زیر ساخت های زهکشی در توسعه شهری واقعی توصیف می شود.

Abstract

The use of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) to manage urban runoff and contribute to environmental and landscape improvement is now widely known, but its application is still limited in many regions, like in Mediterranean countries. In addition, there is a lack of Decision Support Tools that consider all their benefits in the decision making process in a clear and integrated holistic way. In this paper, the E2STORMED Decision Support Tool is presented. This tool analyses the impact of stormwater management in the urban environment and introduces energetic and environmental criteria in the decision making process. Therefore, it aims to fill in the existing “gap” between SuDS manuals and guidelines and regional and local decision makers, since it quantifies SuDS benefits and includes them in the comparison of different stormwater scenarios. Finally, the results of applying this tool to compare drainage infrastructures in a real urban development are described.

5. Conclusions

Nowadays, there is a clear trend towards more sustainable stormwater management and urban development. Hence, energetic, social and environmental criteria should be involved in the decision making process. In fact, in recent years different tools have been developed to inform urban stormwater management. Most of them include environmental and social criteria in the decision making process and promote the use of SuDS. Although these tools are a good beginning, a more integrated tool is needed to analyze the effects of stormwater management in the whole urban water cycle and urban development. In this paper, the E2 STORMED DST is presented. This tool complements financial analyses of stormwater management projects with energy and environmental criteria with the aim of more sustainable urban water management. The tool provides robust and transparent decision criteria and methods for informed stormwater management.

Wavelet and Gaussian Approaches for Estimation of Groundwater Variations Using GRACE Data

Abstract

In this study, a scheme is presented to estimate groundwater storage variations in Iran. The variations are estimated using 11 years of Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiments (GRACE) observations from period of 2003 to April 2014 in combination with the outputs of Global Land Data Assimilation Systems (GLDAS) model including soil moisture, snow water equivalent, and total canopy water storage. To do so, the sums of GLDAS outputs are subtracted from terrestrial water storage variations determined by GRACE observations. Because of stripping errors in the GRACE data, two methodologies based on wavelet analysis and Gaussian filtering are applied to refine the GRACE data. It is shown that the wavelet approach could better localize the desired signal and increase the signal-to-noise ratio and thus results in more accurate estimation of groundwater storage variations. To validate the results of our procedure in estimation of ground water storage variations, they are compared with the measurements of pisometric wells data near the Urmia Lake which shows favorable agreements with our results.

1 Introduction

From all of the available water in the world, about 97% is distributed in the oceans and seas where the value of salinity is very high and not suitable for specific civilian use. From the 3% of the remaining water, about 2% is frozen in the polar ice sheets, unattainable to most, and only 1% is terrestrial water storage (TWS). TWS is the most important component of the global water cycle comprising the water stored in soil, snow over land, and the so-called groundwater storage (Chen et al. 2014). TWS variations reflect the accumulation of precipitation, evaporation, canopy, and runoff in a region. The estimation of TWS variations is a powerful tool for investigation of forecast flood, natural phenomena such as drought, and the other uses of water supply. Among the aforementioned ingredients in the TWS, groundwater storage is an important parameter in water resource management, land-surface processes, and hydrological cycle.

TWS variations could be estimated using spacebased data, such as remote sensing images or satellite gravimetric measurements, as well as ground-based data such as pisometric wells observations or climatological experiments. The remote sensing images have a good spatial coverage, but their sensing regions reached down to a depth of many centimeters. The data of pisometric wells could provide useful information of groundwater down to a depth of about 100 m and more, but they suffer from drawback of point-wise measurement which does not provide a good spatial resolution. Satellite gravimetric measurements of time variable gravity field are a new data type which is capable of modeling and detecting global mass transfer within the Earth. This subject, in its present form, began with the launch of the GRACE mission (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiments). The GRACE mission provides a useful apparatus to study the time variation of the gravity field of the Earth. GRACE is able to monitor changes in a TWS from the land surface to the base of the deepest aquifer (surface water, soil moisture, groundwater, and snow) (Tapley et al. 2004b).

Numerous studies have shown that GRACE can offer useful constraints on TWS, including ocean mass change (e.g., Chambers et al. 2004; Lombard et al. 2007), mass balance of the ice sheets (e.g., Lutchke et al. 2006; Ramillien et al. 2006; Velicogna and Wahr 2006), polar ice sheet melting (e.g., Velicogna and Wahr 2006), and groundwater variations (Moiwo et al. 2012; Jin and Feng 2013; Lenk 2013).

GRACE consists of twin satellites which provide a unique opportunity to estimate the groundwater storage and its temporal variations. Because GRACE observations are affected by all sources of TWS, extraction of the groundwater component from GRACE observations requires the estimation of other impacts from auxiliary data sets. The useful data sets that can be used for this purpose are hydrological models such as GLDAS (the Global Land Data Assimilation Systems) or WGHM (WaterGAP Global Hydrology Model) (Rodell et al. 2004). In this study, the GLDAS outputs that are soil moisture, snow water equivalent, and total canopy water storage are used.

Recent outcomes of the GRACE mark a major step forward in assessing groundwater storage variations in our study location. Forootan et al. (2014) derived an estimation of TWS in Iran using combination of GRACE, altimetry, and hydrological data and analyzed a mass decrease with an average linear rate of 15 mm/year and linear trend of groundwater storage for the drought period of 2005 to March 2011. Joodaki et al. (2014) estimated the human contribution to groundwater depletion in the Middle East using GRACE and land surface models and found that the largest groundwater depletion is occurring in Iran, with a mass loss rate of 25 gigatonne (GT)/year and showed that over half of the groundwater loss in Iran may be attributed to human withdrawals. Moreover, Voss et al. (2013) estimated approximately 91 km3 groundwater depletion in Middle East particularly in Iran using GRACE observations from 2003 to 2009.

In this study, we apply GRACE TWS changes in conjunction with GLDAS outputs to resolve groundwater storage changes in Iran during the period of January 2003 to April 2014. Two different low pass filtering schemes were applied to refine the GRACE spherical harmonic (SH) coefficients, that is, the traditional Gaussian filtering and an innovated wavelet analysis. To show the performance and accuracy of the results, the estimated groundwater changes are compared with groundwater level obtained from in situ measurements of pisometric wells data over the Urmia Lake.
